Nic StoneA modern alternative to SparkNotes and CliffsNotes, SuperSummary offers high-quality Study Guides with detailed chapter summaries and analysis of major themes, characters, and more. For select classroom titles, we also provide Teaching Guides with discussion and quiz questions to prompt student engagement.
The title of the novel Clean Getaway is often associated with a feeling of escaping after committing a crime. What makes this an apt title for the book? Why does Scoob say that G’ma made a “clean getaway” at the end of the novel even though she passed away? Did anyone else make a clean getaway?
Teaching Suggestion: Encourage students to think about character development and, in connection with the Personal Connection Prompt, correlate students’ thoughts in that prompt with this question.
Differentiation Suggestion: For advanced learners, an alternative approach to this discussion prompt could be to graph different characters’ development. Students might split into groups, with each group taking a major character: Scoob, G’ma, G’pop, and James. They can then map the progression of the character’s development, noting where it falls within the rising action of the novel, its climax, and its conclusion. The graphs might be shared or presented as time allows.
