Long Answer

1. While most of the chapters leading up to the conclusion build mystery in the novel, the author’s decision to reveal the mysteries all at once serve to isolate Vince. Vince has just lost his girlfriend, he has been betrayed by his father’s shady business dealings, he discovers that Alex is behind the homecoming posters, and he learns that Tommy has been using his website to bet on horses. All these activities leave Vince without anyone to lean on in his time of need, contributing to the tension of the novel’s climax. (Various chapters)
